Read Write Inc Phonics Programme
As part of this programme the children learn how to form their letters using rhymes. This document shows you the rhymes we use so you can join in with these at home.
Week beginning Monday 20th October
Today the children have enjoyed learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali. They had a go at some crafts linked to Diwali and retold the story of Rama and Sita.
Week beginning Monday 13th October
Class 1 have had an exciting week this week. They enjoyed their cross country running on Tuesday, when Sarah from the Get Ahead partnership came in. The children showed many values including positivity and resilience as well as encouraging others.
In English the Year 1 children have been writing their WANTED posters for the wolf. Hopefully he will be found soon, and the pigs will be safe! The Reception children have started writing CVC words this week, applying their phonic knowledge.
Reception enjoyed an extended playtime on Tuesday as their 100% attendance award.

Week beginning Monday 6th October
This week, in Geography, Class 1 continued to learn about the River Ancholme. In previous weeks they have learnt about the source and mouth of the river. This week, they were learning about leisure activities that people do on the river.
After that, it was lovely to see the children leading their own learning in the provision areas. This obstacle course was set up by a Year 1 child and then she invited the Reception children to take part. It was lovely to see the relationships these children have built in class.
Week beginning Monday 29th September
In maths, the Reception children have been sorting and matching this week. The Year 1 children have been learning to write some of the number words. They will learn to read the write all number words to twenty by the end of Year 1. They have also been learning about the value of numbers 11 - 20.
Class 1 have been enjoying learning running skills in PE. We have been learning how to change speed doing walking, jogging and sprinting. We've had lots of sprinting races!
The children in Reception have been learning the initial sounds in words. They have been learning how to blend with Fred Talk and they were all super pleased to bring home their first reading book with words in this week.
Last week the children enjoyed their visit to church where Mrs Marr kindly showed them around.
Reception have enjoyed their 100% attendance reward this week. This time a 20 minute movie of their choice - Tiddler was the chosen movie. Well done Reception.
Week beginning Monday 22nd September
The children in Reception have been learning how to count this week in maths. They have been reading numbers 1 to 5 and counting objects as they extend their learning in the provision around the classroom.
The Year 1 children have also been developing their counting skills, counting objects to 10, matching the numerals and they have also started to read and write some of the number words.
We have all noticed a change in the weather this week. The children in Class 1 have been exploring pine cones, conkers, acorns and the changing colours of the leaves. They have been reading Leaf Man and have created some of their own leaf men and ladies and they have done some leaf printing too.
Week beginning Monday 15th September
This week in art, the children enjoyed following Mrs Weston's instructions to learn about shading. They all tried really hard using the sketching pencils to create different types of shading. We were very impressed with their finished pieces.
In PE this week the children were learning how to control different running speeds, from walking to jogging to running.
The children in Class 1 have also enjoyed developing their own learning in our provision areas and it has been lovely to see the interactions between both Year 1 and Reception children.
Week beginning Monday 8th September
This week in maths, Class 1 have been learning about time. They have learnt the vocabulary of before, after, morning, afternoon, evening and night. They have learnt to sequence events.
In Computing, Year 1 have been learning that technology is something that has been made that helps us. We found lots of examples in class and the children were challenged to find examples of technology at home.
Week beginning Monday 1st September
It was lovely to welcome all of our new Reception children into Class 1 and also to welcome the Year 1 children returning to school. We spent the first day going through our routines and expectations in Class 1. The children enjoyed exploring the provision areas and the Reception children made their first creation in the workshop, a superstar crown! The children enjoyed exploring the new reading area. Another big hit with the children was a new shelving unit where they can display their creations for the day for others to see.
