Design and Technology Curriculum Intent Statement

Through inspiring and practical learning experiences that engage, encourage, and challenge pupils, children develop the confidence to succeed and take risks. A wide range of creative and hands-on activities provides opportunities to experiment, design, invent, create, and evaluate both existing products and their own. These experiences span multiple subjects, fostering connections across disciplines and nurturing resourceful, innovative, and enterprising citizens.

Pupils at Wrawby St. Mary’s CE Primary, gain essential knowledge, understanding, and skills in mechanisms, textiles, structures, and nutrition. This foundation supports their grasp of life within our community and the wider world. To further enrich their learning, children explore the inventions and contributions of pioneers and leaders in these fields, drawing inspiration and motivation to emulate their achievements.

The national curriculum for design and technology aims to ensure that all pupils:

    • develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
    • build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
    • critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
    • understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
