Week beginning 17.3.25
This week in school has been science week. I challenged the children to create a wire game using a buzzer, wires, battery and metal wires to create a game and a hook. All the groups were successful in creating a game that worked!
Week beginning 3.3.25
This week year 6 have been incredibly busy with their practice SATS week and I have been incredibly proud of all the children! The children have also enjoyed playing tennis in PE.
Week beginning 24.2.25
This week we had the privilege of going to Humberside Airport where 'Run with it Hull' hosted a morning of English and Maths problems that were based on real life scenarios. The children had lots of fun and the only downside was that it was just for the morning!
Week beginning 10.2.25
This week in science, we have been on a nature walk around the school grounds. The children were exploring and finding different leaves that we have in our own environment. They then had to create a classification system based on the leaves they found.
Week beginning 27.01.25
This week in maths we have been exploring pie charts. The children have had an opportunity to work together to draw different pie charts using a protractor and a compass.
Week beginning 20.1.25
This week we have been writing a diary entry about Narnia, Year 6 have focussed on how accurate their descriptive is. Mrs Wormald was able to put a few descriptions into AI which produced a picture for the children. Here are some examples:
Snowflakes danced gracefully around me fluttering like tiny yet delicate ballerinas. There was a glistening blanket of white with a shape of a human in the snow (which was mine)! A singular lamppost lit illuminated my face. The lamp posts were tall, bright with snow glistening over it. Bright, beautiful and old trees stood proud like glorious guardians.

Week beginning 13.1.25
This week, Year 6 were invited to a zoom call about the Holocaust. The children listen to Hedi, who lived in Austria as a little girl. Hedi came to England before WWII broke out and she discussed how life was different and what happened to her cousin in Austria who wasn't as fortunate as her.

Happy New Year!
What a busy first week back we have had! In RE, we have been exploring what forgiveness means. The children were given a quote and a scenario to act out, they had to think carefully about what each person was thinking throughout their drama piece.
Week beginning 16.12.24
This week Year 6 had there school trip to the Wilderspin museum. They enjoyed becoming evacuees for the day and learning more about what life was like in WW2.

This week we were lucky enough to have Mr MacDonald come into school and shared artifacts he had been given from his dad from WW2.
Week beginning 2.12.24
This week Year 6 have had lots of fun seeing how light reflects. We cut a slit out of a piece of paper and shined a torch through it, reflecting the light onto a mirror. Year 6 also had lots of fun helping with the pyjama run.

This week, Year 6 have started their construction of their Automata toys. They have cut the pieces of wood to make the structure.
Week beginning 11.11.24
This week Year 6 have had lots of fun on our inter-faith day. We created a piece of Art which showed peace between the different religions. On Thursday and Friday, we have had our bikeability training.
Week beginning 4.11.24
This week in English, we have been watching a short clip from the film 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher stone'. We have focused on what it was like for Harry to live under the staircase and how the Dursley's treated him. To help understand this, the children acted out the scene Harry under the staircase scene and had lots of fun getting into character!
Week beginning 28.10.24
It has been lovely to welcome the children back. This week in science, we were exploring how shadows were formed. The children experimented how to make different animal shadows with their hands.
Week beginning 7.10.2024
This week we have been incredibly busy! In English, we have been writing a persuasive poster about a spy watch. The children have thought carefully about the different features the watch would need and they have written this to Alex Rider (relating to our class story). On Thursday, the whole school took part in the wellbeing afternoon and they had lots of fun completing different mindfulness activities: yoga bugs, just dance, arts and crafts and meditation.

This week the children have been working incredibly hard, I challenged them to write a persuasive advert on their favourite chocolate bar. Below are a few of the fantastic examples!
Week beginning 23.09.2024
This week Year 6, with the Year 5's, took part in cross country . We were very impressed with the children and the effort they put in! In science, we were looking what blood is in the body. We discovered that blood is made of red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, platelets and nutrients. We even created our own blood, which was lots of fun!
Week beginning 16.09.24
This week Year 6 have been incredibly busy! We have created our own jumping games in PE to help improve the distance we can jump. In Science, we did a little bit of role play of the circulatory system. Some children were the blood vessels changing from being oxygenated and deoxygenated blood and others were the chambers which allowed the blood into and out of the heart. Lastly, we had a very special visit of some chicks which the children thoroughly enjoyed!
Week beginning 09.09.2024
It has been lovely to welcome the children back and to get straight into routine. We have had a busy week learning about the different functions of the heart, writing and sharing ideas for our new English unit Alma and playing mental addition and subtraction games.
